Fundraiser for Ian Cohen a Resounding Success
I wish extend my sincere thanks to all whose efforts made for a great night
at the evening with Senator Bob Brown on the 23rd of january. Greens and
community volunteers including councillors Jan Barham Richard Staples Geoff
Johnson from Ballina. Giovanni Ebono for his masterful auctioneering
skills.
Of course Bob was brilliant giving up his precious time to come to Byron and generously spend much of the evening on stage. The 'couch' interview with Mayor Barham gave the 400 people audience real insight into the man behind the politician. Jan also deserves thanks for her efforts on the night.
The Echo with their generous placement of advertisements gave huge impetus to the success of the event as did Ticket outlets Bare Bones, Medicine Wheel, Lennox Bookmark and Mullum Book Shop. On top of that was support from Zendfelts Coffee, and Alpacka Packaging, so we got it right in the container department, and Liz from Luscious Foods. Artists Rose McKinley David Milledge and Sandra Heuston for auctionable artwork of high order. Nic the Mobile Framer who presented the artwork so well. Another thank you to John D'Errey once again donating his latest Byron photographic book as a prize.
On the sound and visual side Juan and Donny Mc Cormick wrapped it up professionally and did justice to Karl and Parissa of The Hottentots who balanced with musical flourish. Donny is now working on a DVD of the night including Bob's interview.
To the over 400 people who attended on a night of so much choice around the shire a big thank you for your support. Now, we raised over $7,000 which was fantastic but the gathering of so many wonderful people along with Bob will make it a night to remember. As one of my 'spiritual/comical' advisors quipped. "How do you eat an elephant?" answer "One bite at a time." Last Saturday was one big beautiful bite. Thanks!
