Greens Launch Campaign for Ballina Council Elections

Today the Greens launched their candidate for the Ballina Council elections to be held in September. Jeff Johnson supported by Lee Rhiannon launched his campaign at Lennox Head.

Jeff Johnson is the first Greens candidate ever to stand for Ballina Council. Jeff will be running in the B-Ward which covers East Ballina, Lennox Head, and the surrounding hinterland and rural hamlets.

The local wholesale nursery owner and Bachelor of Business graduate said that he believes local councils will become increasingly important as oil and energy prices rise. "Clean water, safe public transport, cycleways and local food initiatives are needed to deliver the quality of life we all want," he said. "Local government can introduce a range of incentives to deliver these essentials while reducing our impact on the environment."

He noted that the issues of climate change, oil depletion and their impact on food, water and energy prices have been the basis of The Greens practical approach to economic management for years,

"You can trust the Greens to provide real leadership on
climate change, inappropriate development and your
children’s future”
